Utilities face 15% demand reduction by 2025

Energy utilities in Europe and the US will face substantial losses by 2025 as energy demand is disrupted through new technologies and energy efficiency measures, unless they adapt their business models

Energy utilities in Europe and the US will face substantial losses by 2025 as energy demand is disrupted through new technologies and energy efficiency measures, unless they adapt their business models. 

This is the main conclusion from consultancy Accenture’s Digitally Enabled Grid research, released in a December report.1 

While the report dismisses the notion of a utility ‘death spiral’, it finds that collectively these drivers are set to reduce UK utility revenues by up to £4.6bn a year by 2025.
