DECC may overhaul low-level nuclear waste management

The government is looking at new management strategies for low-level nuclear waste, having admitted that the current system is not addressing key environmental issues

The UK’s nuclear low-level waste (LLW) strategy may be overhauled in response to persistent environmental concerns around its current management.

DECC and the nuclear decommissioning authority (NDA) are currently consulting on the changes, despite a 2014 NDA review of the 2010 LLW strategy finding that the “scope and direction of the original strategy” should not change.
