Councils to receive full business rates from fracking

DCLG says local authorities should be able to retain 100% of business rates arising from hydraulic fracturing operations

Local authorities should be allowed to retain 100% of business rates on shale oil and gas sites, the Department for Government and Local Communities (DCLG) has concluded.

Eleven of the 26 respondents to a consultation on the matter objected, saying that allowing planning authorities to retain business rates would be inconsistent with impartial decision-making on planning matters. They also referred to potential environmental impacts and inconveniences associated with fracking.
