Volatile commodity prices prove the need for resource efficiency

A Green Alliance report debunks the myth that a fall in commodity prices makes the circular economy redundant

Improving resource efficiency will help to stabilise commodity prices, according to a report from Green Alliance.

The lobbying group has hit back at claims that the recent falls in commodity prices – notably oil – lessens the need for a more resource efficiency policy.

Citing articles from the Daily Telegraph and the Financial Times, which have questioned the need to recalibrate resources policy to an era of lower commodity prices, the report argues that this view “ignores the inherent volatility and unpredictability of commodity prices”.
