UK succeeds in lobbying against EU resource efficiency target

MEPs have voted against a binding resource efficiency target in the revised circular economy package but approved most of the other tough recycling goals

The European Parliament has dropped a demand for a resource efficiency target in the revised circular economy package, following lobbying by member states including the UK.

On 9 July, MEPs endorsed most proposals from the environment committee which wanted the European Commission to retain the tougher recycling requirements proposed by its predecessor.
