Fife illegal landfill operator to pay £15,000

A Scottish man has been given a confiscation order after storing 85,000 tonnes of waste on his land without a permit

A man has been given a £15,000 confiscation order after illegally storing waste on his land for over five years.

Ernest McPherson ran an illegal landfill site at Wester Cartmore Farm in Fife between 2006 and 2012.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) estimated the site held about 85,000 tonnes of household and industrial and commercial waste, including railway sleepers, metal gauze, plastic drainage pipe, aerosol cans, car seat springs, roofing slates, bricks, tubs, heavy plant air filters and plastic carpeting.
