EA welcomes drop in water company pollution

The water industry has boosted its green credentials, shrugging off its dismal recent pollution record with its best results since 2011

There were just four category one pollution incidents last year (photograph: Sura Nualpradid/123RF)The water industry reduced its serious pollution incidents by nearly a third last year in what the Environment Agency (EA) has described as a “welcome” development.

In 2014, there were 61 category one and two incidents – the most serious – compared with 88 the previous year, according to the EA’s annual environmental performance assessment (EPA) of water and sewage firms published on 13 July.Figure: Serious pollution incidents for the nine water companies
