Renewables targets rely on strong regulation

The UK is unlikely to meet its renewable energy targets without good economic growth and strong regulation, a National Grid report suggests

Meeting the UK’s future renewable energy targets will rely on strong environmental regulation and economic growth, a report by the National Grid suggests.

And even if this occurs, the 15% target set out by the Renewable Energy Directive will only just be met.

These are the findings of a National Grid update to its annual Future Energy Scenarios series, published on 15 July, which map the direction of the UK energy system.
