NRW told to publish correspondence with Welsh government

The regulator's top staff have been criticised for not doing enough to assert their independence from government by the Welsh assembly's scrutiny commitee

Natural Resources Wales's (NRW) senior management must set a clearer purpose for the organisation and be more transparent about its relationship with government, according to the Welsh Assembly's environment and sustainability committee.

In a letter to NRW chief executive Emyr Jones, dated 14 July, committee chair Alun Ffred Jones outlines "significant concerns" about the regulator's direction following an investigation into its independence, focus and staff morale over the past two years.
