DECC confirms reduced RO support for biomass

Grandfathering policy will be removed for new co-firing and converted biomass power plants, DECC has confirmed

The government has confirmed it is curtailing support for biomass under the Renewables Obligation (RO) subsidy scheme.

The change, announced on 22 July, will remove a price guarantee mechanism known as grandfathering from future biomass co-firing and conversion projects under the RO.

It will also apply to existing stations or combustion units of all biomass bands receiving RO support, extending to mid-range co-firing, high-range co-firing and biomass conversion for the first time.
