Amazon plans to build 208MW wind farm

Amazon could boost its green credentials with the construction of its largest wind farm, after receiving scathing criticism from Greenpeace earlier this year

Amazon has commissioned a 208-megawatt capacity wind farm in North Carolina, in what will be its largest renewable project to date.

The wind farm is expected to start generating about 670,000 megawatt hours of  energy annually in December 2016.

Built by Iberdrola Renewables, the energy generated will power Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) cloud data centres.

Amazon provides the infrastructure for a large part of the internet. Firms such as Netflix, Pinterest and Reddit, which do not own their own data centres, have turned to Amazon to host their data.
