Scotland snares another offshore wind manufacturer

French firm Areva says it may establish a manufacturing base in east Scotland. But other firms have withdrawn from similar promises

Wind turbine. Credit: DreamstimeThe French energy giant Areva may build offshore wind turbines in Scotland, it announced today (19 November).

The firm has signed a memorandum of understanding with Scottish Enterprise on the development of plants to make wind turbine nacelles, which contain a turbine’s generating equipment, and blades. It is now searching for suitable sites. The development could create up to 750 direct jobs, it says.
