MPs criticise ‘short-sighted’ flood spending levels

A group of MPs has said government should boost flood defence spending and move more quickly on sustainable drainage

An extra £20m investment in new flood defences is needed every year for the next 25 years and it is “short-sighted” to maintain current levels of spending on maintenance, according to the House of Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) select committee.

In a 4 July report the MPs welcome recent flood spending commitments from DEFRA and the Treasury but insist more is needed.
