EU consults on updating groundwater pollution rules

The European Commission wants to know if it should revise the substances regulated under the 2006 Groundwater Directive, but there appears little appetite for change

The European Commission is consulting on whether to revise the lists of substances regulated under the 2006 Groundwater Directive.

The consultation, launched on 30 July, asks whether any substances should be added to annex I of the directive, which contains limit values for nitrates and pesticides.

It also asks whether any annex II substances should be upgraded to annex I and therefore have an EU-wide quality standard set for their control.
