Subsidy guarantee for all financed biomass electricity plants

Renewables Obligation support will be guaranteed for eligible electricity-only biomass plants in England and Wales which have finance in place, DECC has announced

The government has finalised rules for awarding 400 megawatts worth of biomass electricity subsidies in England and Wales.

Proposals limiting Renewables Obligation (RO) support for biomass plants to the first 400MW of installed capacity were issued for consultation by DECC in May.

The subsidy limit applies to biomass installations above 50 kilowatts that generate electricity only. More efficient combined heat and power (CHP) biomass plants are exempt because the government wants to encourage these.
