‘Community veto’ absent in latest renewables planning guidance

The long-awaited guidance is unlikely to change how councils approach wind or solar projects. However, the communities secretary has unusually ‘called in’ several wind applications

New planning guidance on renewable energy does not appear to put additional barriers in the way of wind or solar projects and does not give communities a veto over schemes, despite earlier suggestions that it would.  

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) issued the guidance on 29 July. It has been long-trailed and caused much concern among renewables firms.
