Research shows declining consumer triclosan use

The Environment Agency’s chemical compliance team has been tracking the use of triclosan in household and industrial products

Triclosan use appears to be declining in the consumer market, according to the annual report of the Environment Agency’s chemical compliance team.

Researchers have been studying commercial and domestic use of the microbial substance, which is not restricted but has been the subject of debate over health impacts for many years.

Many triclosan products on the market are considered ‘high-risk’, meaning they directly enter the water environment during normal use.
