Call for evidence on draft Deregulation Bill

MPs want to know if provisions in the controversial bill are evidence-based and how they may affect the environment

MPs are asking for views on the implications of the forthcoming Deregulation Bill.

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on the Draft Deregulation Bill has issued a call for evidence on whether the proposals have been rigorously developed and whether any associated environmental risks have been taken into account.

The wide-ranging draft introduces a statutory growth duty for non-economic regulators such as the Environment Agency and Natural England and makes a number of legal changes, including a clause giving ministers power to remove any regulation “no longer of practical use”.
