Improving business resource efficiency, avoiding or redistributing food waste and a more circular economy are key goals in the government’s draft Waste Prevention Programme for England, published on 6 August.1 But a lack of clear objectives in the draft could mean it fails to satisfy European waste prevention obligations.
At the core of the document is a 130- word ‘shared vision’ on waste prevention and resource use. This mission statement from DEFRA wants to “propel us towards a world with less waste; a more circular economy”.
