DEFRA published a waste management plan for England for consultation on 15 July, meeting a requirement of the EU’s Waste Framework Directive. The consultation closed on 9 August.

The directive says national plans must set out how much waste is generated and how it is managed.

They must also include an assessment of the need for new waste collection and treatment infrastructure and details of waste planning policies (ENDS Report 401, p6).
