MPs call for clearer rules on sentencing

The commons justice committee wants guidelines on environmental sentencing to state that they can be more widely used for other offences

MPs have called for clearer guidelines on environmental crimes to avoid inconsistency in sentencing.

The House of Commons Justice Committee’s report on draft Sentencing Council guidelines on environmental penalties was published on 19 July. It backs up concerns raised by environmental lawyers during the formal consultation period earlier this year (ENDS Report 461, p18).1
