Mars to achieve palm oil target two years early

The food firm is making headway on buying certified products but other sustainability goals such as cutting greenhouse gas emissions are proving difficult to meet

Mars is making good progress sourcing certified commodities but reducing the impacts of its factories is proving more difficult, according to an update on its sustainability targets in July.1

The food giant, which has more than a dozen UK sites across its chocolate, petcare, chewing gum and drinks businesses, says it will be purchasing only certified palm oil by the end of 2013, two years ahead of schedule.
