Southern Water fined £200k for illegal sewage discharge

A water company has been fined for repeatedly discharging untreated sewage into popular bathing waters in Kent

Southern Water has been fined £200,000 for polluting the Kent coastline near Margate with untreated sewage.

The water company pleaded guilty before Canterbury magistrates on 2 July to breaching its environmental permit by illegally discharging from Foreness Point wastewater pumping station.

The case was referred to Canterbury crown court, which fined Southern Water £200,000 with £14,500 costs on 23 August for
