Labour will ban food waste from landfill

The veto has been confirmed as part of the Labour Party’s programme for government in a major conference speech on food policy

Shadow environment secretary Mary Creagh says an incoming Labour government will ban food waste from landfill.

The Labour Party frontbencher and Wakefield MP made the unequivocal statement in a speech on food to the 2013 Labour Party conference in Brighton on 23 September.

Her announcement comes a fortnight after the Northern Ireland government began consulting on a food waste landfill ban. Creagh made specific mention of supermarket food waste and connected this with child hunger.
