Northumbrian Water fined £10k for sewage pollution

Invertebrates were killed by a spill of raw sewage into the Ouse burn in Northumberland

Northumbrian Water has been ordered to pay £13,800 for polluting the Ouse burn in Ponteland in Northumberland.

The water firm pleaded guilty before Newcastle magistrates on 24 September to non-compliance with the terms of its environmental permit.

For breaching regulations 12(1)(b) and 38(1)(a) of the Environmental Permitting (England & Wales) Regulations 2010, Northumbrian Water Ltd was fined £10,000 with £3,802 costs.
