Nine sentences in complex hazardous waste case

Five people and four firms have been fined £36,000 and handed a number of other sentences

Five people and four companies have been ordered to pay a total of £70,000 following a major Environment Agency investigation into the illegal handling, storage and export of hazardous waste.

The complex case also resulted in a suspended jail term, a community sentence and conditional discharges.

At hearings on 27 September and 8 October, Bradford crown court sentenced defendants from Greater Manchester, Yorkshire and Merseyside for illegal waste operations in 2009. All had pleaded guilty.
