Labour plans to replace Green Deal, boost ECO

Credit: DreamstimeA Labour government would revamp the flagging Green Deal by slashing interest rates for home energy efficiency upgrade schemes and shift subsidies to whole-house packages, shadow energy and climate minister Luciana Berger said during the party’s annual conference in Brighton.

Labour leader Ed Miliband drew most attention in his speech to the conference for his call for a freeze on energy prices. But there was also the hint of a commitment to revamp the coalition government’s Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation (ECO), confirmed in a policy paper.
