Carillion to cut jobs as Green Deal flounders

Poor uptake of the Green Deal scheme has hit energy services revenue expectations at Carillion, leading to growing concerns for the energy efficiency sector.

Carillion Energy Services is to cut back its offering in the insulation market in the wake of the latest poor figures for uptake of the government’s Green Deal home energy efficiency upgrade loan scheme.

The company, one of the largest in the UK energy efficiency market, also blamed slow uptake of the accompanying Energy Company Obligation (ECO) for hard-to-treat properties and homes in fuel poverty.
