Heathrow noise linked to strokes, death

Links between airport noise and ill-health have been found in two studies covering a combined ten million residents near airports in the UK and US.

London Heathrow. Credit: Kral MichalAirport noise is linked to higher risks of hospital admission or death due to heart disease and stroke, according to a study of 3.6 million residents living near Heathrow.

Those exposed to the loudest noise had the highest health risks, the researchers found, with around a 20% increased risk of stroke compared to those in the study with the lowest exposures.
