Regulation drives sustainability, finds survey

The automobile sector is making better progress towards sustainability as a result of mandatory limits on vehicle CO2, a study has found.

Carmakers are leading other industry sectors in progress towards sustainability because regulations on fuel efficiency and tailpipe emissions are driving innovation, an expert study has found.

The study, by consultants Two Tomorrows, assesses the sustainability strategies of 50 of the world's largest stock exchange listed companies on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. It compares performance by ten companies in five sectors: automobiles, energy generation, food and drink, oil and gas, and information and communication technology (ICT).
