L'Oréal launches customer-boosting sustainability plan

The French beauty products company is challenging Unilever and M&S in a bid to become a sustainability leader

Cosmetics company L'Oréal is aiming to double customer numbers while cutting carbon, waste and water emissions.

The goal is part of the company's new sustainability strategy launched on 23 October, setting several environmental and social targets for 2020.

L'Oréal's ambition is to gain another billion customers while cutting its absolute carbon emissions by 60% by 2020 from a 2005 baseline.

The company will also cut water and waste per unit of production by 60% by 2020 compared with 2005.
