£6m kick start for district heating

Councils in England and Wales will be able to develop and expand their heat networks through £6m of new government funding

Councils in England and Wales will be able to develop and expand their heat networks through £6m of new government funding.

DECC launched the new grant programme on 20 September. To win funding, council projects must be “ambitious and innovative” and utilise a “renewable, sustainable or recoverable” source of heat energy.

Schemes likely to be eligible include university campuses, high-rise flats and mixed developments which source heat from industry, energy-from-waste facilities or biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plants.
