Environment Agency tweaks permitting fees

Most charges will be frozen for the next year but the agency is planning some changes to recoup its costs.

The Environment Agency is consulting on several changes to permitting charges to help recoup increased regulatory costs.

The regulator will not increase most of its charges for regulated industrial facilities for 2014/15, in line with previous commitments to reduce the burden on business (ENDS Report 441, p48).1 But it plans a 2.7% increase in base charges for installations and waste facilities under the environmental permitting regulations, in line with inflation.
