Trials cut peak- time energy use

London businesses have chalked up £150,000 of earnings during a two month electricity network load management trial based on demand side response measures.

Smart grid and energy demand management company KiWi Power has partnered with UK Power Networks to cut peak time electricity demand for commercial and industrial sites during trials across London.

The trials, part of UK Power Networks’ £28m Low Carbon London project, used the capital as a test bed to support the development of a smart grid.

Participants included hospitals, water treatment plants, public sector facilities, commercial buildings and the Marriott Hotel chain.
