Police target carbon scam

City of London Police arrested six men on 20 September as part of an investigation into a suspected £1m high-pressure ‘boiler room’ sales scam involving voluntary carbon offsets in London’s square mile.

The six men have since been bailed, but the investigation, involving the office of an unnamed company in the square mile, is ongoing. Police have seized evidence from their home addresses.

Police confirmed the arrests follow concerns that high pressure sales tactics have targeted individual investors through cold calling, leading to carbon credits being “sold for over-inflated prices that are not capable of generating the returns promised”.
