Food firms lax on sourcing

Unilever ranked best while Associated British Foods scored worst on sourcing agricultural goods from developing countries.

Nestlé, Danone, Kellogg’s and other food firms are showing only modest improvements in supply-chain management, according to a new ranking by Oxfam.1

The charity’s Behind the Brand scorecard assesses performance by the ten biggest food and beverage firms on sourcing agricultural goods from developing countries. It looks at policies on seven issues including land use and climate change. The initiative is backed by 31 institutional investors with $1.5bn of assets including Aviva, BNP Paribas and F&C Investments.
