Oxfordshire solar farm applications soar

Hundreds of hectares of Oxfordshire agricultural land is at risk of commercial solar development, according to the CPRE. The charity is concerned about an England-wide rise in planning applications for large-scale solar farms

 A rise in Oxfordshire planning authority requests suggests a booming interest in developing commercial solar PV farms in the county.

About 1,000 hectares of greenfield land in the county is at risk of commercial solar development, according to research by the Oxfordshire branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE).

The group found that 40 solar-related applications were submitted to Oxfordshire’s four district councils in the last two years. The charity – which operates independently of the CPRE nationally – also published a map showing their location.
