Stock exchanges ranked on sustainability disclosure

The London Stock Exchange has been ranked well down the world league on requirements for corporate disclosure of environmental and social performance

The London Stock Exchange risks being eclipsed by other stock markets in emerging economies which have more effective requirements on companies to disclose information on sustainability performance, a study shows.

The study assessed the 2011 performance of 45 of the world’s stock exchanges on the extent to which listed companies disclose information on environmental and social impacts. It focused on seven sustainability key performance indicators (KPIs) including carbon, waste, water and energy.
