DEFRA studies funding options for national parks

Park authorities and AONBs may be encouraged to get more revenue from environmental schemes as a result of the study

National park authorities could soon be asked to get more of their funding from environmental protection schemes, depending on the outcome of a government study.

DEFRA has commissioned Land Use Consultants to review how both national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty (AONBs) can maximise revenue in the face of declining central government grants and other revenues.

National park authorities’ income has dropped 40% since 2010/11.
