Clegg urges greener focus to government

In a major speech, the deputy prime minister said the government must hold its nerve on the environment. But his words starkly contrast with recent policy announcements.

Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg gave a major green speech on 7 November, urging the government to “sharpen its focus” on the environment.1

“Conventional wisdom tells us that the environment must now go on the backburner while we prioritise our economic recovery, but I believe the opposite is true,” he said at an event organised by thinktank Green Alliance. “It would be a huge mistake to take our foot off the pedal now.”
