Permitting risk assessments set to change

Operators with bespoke environmental permits will have to change the way they assess risks, an Environment Agency consultation says.

The Environment Agency is changing the way risks must be assessed under the amended 2010 Environmental Permitting Regulations.

The changes apply to sites that need a bespoke environmental permit under the regulations. This might include waste sites, intensive farming operations and sewage works.

The agency is consulting on changes to its H1 environmental risk assessment guidance until 24 December.1 The guidance helps operators show how they are managing health and environmental risks when they apply for a permit.
