DEFRA seeks evidence for English carrier bag charge

DEFRA is seeking views on the criteria it should use to exempt biodegradable bags from the forthcoming carrier bag charge for England

DEFRA has put out an evidence call in advance of introducing a carrier bag charge for England in 2015.

This is partly to help the department draw up a standard for biodegradable bags.

Nick Clegg announced the carrier bag charge policy for England in September (ENDS Report 464, p6). But the charge will not apply to biodegradable bags meeting specific criteria – although these have yet to be defined.
