Widespread water company pollution failure

The pollution prevention performance of six of the ten English and Welsh water and sewerage companies is falling short of Ofwat’s expectations.

A new system of key performance indicators (KPIs) has revealed widespread environmental failures by water and sewerage firms in England and Wales in 2011/12.

These are mainly due to water and sewage pollution incidents.

However, the KPIs also show that all water companies met their leakage targets last year, after six failed to do so for two successive years (ENDS Report 442, p 32).
