Councils win contaminated land funding

Funding for England’s 2012/13 contaminated land grant programme has been allocated but remains at the same low level as last year.

The Environment Agency has given 49 projects in England a share of £4m for investigating and remediating contaminated land.

The money comes from the 2012/13 round of the agency’s contaminated land capital grant programme, which helps councils and the agency check and clean up sites.

Less than half of the £10.7m requested in bids has actually been approved but this a similar level to last year’s £4.17m allocation (ENDS Report 439, p 29). The original allocation in 2010/11 was nearer £20m.
