US senate committee backs anti-EU ETS draft

A draft law allowing the US federal government to ban US airlines from the EU emissions trading scheme has received backing

The US Senate’s Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation has backed a draft law allowing the country’s federal government to ban US airlines from taking part in the EU emissions trading scheme (EU ETS).

The draft law was introduced to the senate last December after similar measures were adopted by the House of Representatives (ENDS Report 443, p 33). It was backed by senators from both parties and will now pass to the full senate, but it also needs president Barack Obama’s backing.
