DECC to finalise simplified climate change agreements

Simplified sectoral climate change agreements are expected to come into force from 1 April 2013

The energy and climate department (DECC) is close to finalising simplified sectoral climate change agreements (CCAs), expected to come in to force from 1 April 2013.

An increase in eligible sites will help cut compliance costs, but new sectors will be unable to set up schemes.

CCAs provide partial relief from the climate change levy on energy use in return for energy efficiency and carbon savings. This will be set at 90% relief from April 2013. There are currently 54 sectoral agreements that have been subject to a series of consultations on simplification, the most recent in September 2011.
