New tyre labelling rules come into force

European rules aim to improve the energy efficiency of cars, buses and lorries

An EU law requiring new tyres to display an energy efficiency label came into force on 1 November.

From now on, all tyres sold in the EU must be rated according to their fuel efficiency, wet grip performance and noise level.

The labelling scheme applies to new tyres for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, lorries and buses. It does not apply to racing tyres or professional off-road tyres, retreaded tyres or motorbike tyres.
