Drug water standards not justified, say UK experts

Proposed EU water standards for three drugs have been questioned by a UK expert committee

Anti-inflammatory drug diclofenac sodiumAdopting an environmental quality standard (EQS) for anti-inflammatory drug diclofenac under EU water legislation is not justified because available data appears unreliable, a UK scientific committee has warned.

In a letter to water minister Richard Benyon, DEFRA’s Hazardous Substances Advisory Committee (HSAC) said there were "significant issues on water solubility… which may invalidate many of the tests".
