Industry calls for CRC to be made more relevant

An industry-led report has called for reforms to the complex CRC league tables, metrics and incentives to help drive sectoral energy efficiency

The controversial CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme could still be reformed to have a long-term future as a carbon management and allowance system, says an industry-led report.

The loss of selective recycling of revenue from carbon allowances through performance league tables has been a fundamental problem, largely undermining the scheme as an energy efficiency and low-carbon driver. The report calls for this to be restored in the form of tax rebates, though this is likely to be resisted by the Treasury.
