Unilever project addresses food waste challenge

Food and consumer goods firm Unilever is researching practical advice to help households cut food waste and other impacts

Unilever is trying to help households live more sustainably and save money through a research project launched in November.

Under its sustainable living plan, the food and consumer goods firm has set itself the goal of doubling the size of its business while reducing its overall impact (ENDS Report 430, pp 10-11).

To do this it must reduce the impacts of customers using its products. Unilever says two thirds of the environmental footprint from the energy, water and waste associated with its products come from their use rather than their manufacture.
